DRAMAMÓN
Bayrol Jiménez

Curaduría: María Elena Ortiz
With a touch of black humor, Bayrol Jimenez offers hallucinated images, ephemeral and conceptual practices in a contemporary mural. The artist’s practice shows an appreciation towards drawing and strategies of cartoon iconography.
On the other hand, Jimenez relies on the aesthetics of comics, not only in terms of brushstroke, but also for its public character -specifically for mass contact. Thus, Jimenez uses characters from the political and popular culture, while also makes fictitious ones, unleashing tensions such as political violence and drug trafficking.
At the Sala de Arte Publico Siqueiros, Jimenez created Dramamón, a critique towards the way in which the genre of drama has offered national discourses to Western cultures, alluding to a contemporary lifestyle promoted by media strategies.
